All about relationships

Do you ever wonder whether or not your sponsored child receives the letters, photos and other small items that you send? We get this question almost daily in our office. A few days ago I was going through some letters from children that are waiting in our office to be sent to sponsors. I loved reading their thoughts as they expressed their thanks and gratitude to their sponsors. I thought I would share these with you since they greatly encouraged me.

“Many thanks to you because you remember my birthday. My elder sister was married last 12th March 2010. She is 18 years old. I do not want to be married now. After finishing my study then I want to be married. You pray for me that I continue my study. I pray that may God bless you.” Lopa, Bangladesh

“Hi! Thanks for the flowers and heart stickers. Also, thanks for the postcard of your favorite place. It’s very cute, I am fine and I am still attending the catch-up classes given by FH staff. I have improved a lot in school studies. I am still following the rainbow that God has created to me in life. Hope you are doing well. Until the next!” Luz, Peru

“Thanks for the pictures of your family. I already know all of them. Thanks for the drawing you send me. I make you know that I am doing well in studies. Write back soon. Pray for my family, please. I also tell you that I have a puppy. It is yellow colored but his snout is black. It is called Ruffo. I close with love. May God bless you and your family.” Jordhan, Peru

Sometimes I think I forget how just a few small words can change someone’s life. Some of my favorite letters are the ones where a child is thanking a sponsor for a Scripture they sent.

“Hi! Thanks for the pretty butterfly card and for John 10:10. I also enjoyed the star stickers. They show the joy that God put into your heart. Thanks for expressing your love and care. I am doing fine with my parents. I’d like to be a veterinary surgeon. Hope to hear from you soon.” Luz, Peru

And then there are the letters with the children encouraging their sponsor with Scripture.

“I hope that this letter finds you well. Don’t forget that God has a plan for your life. I am sure that you will continue to get successful at work. It is said in the Bible that “And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God” Rom 8:28. Go on! May God bless you!” Aldair, Peru

The most important part about child sponsorship is that it is a relationship. Letters back and forth are the most essential part of this relationship. The letters and photos that you send are often times the children’s most prized possessions. Some of your photos might be framed and put in a place of honor in their homes. Other children may have your photos and letters tucked away in a small box or other very significant location so that it is not harmed or lost.

My challenge this week is to share your life with your sponsored child. Write them a letter, tell them about your life, share a Scripture or two and watch how God transforms not only your child’s life but also yours.
